Hamilton v. Mountain Pointe

#1 vs. #2 and Hamilton gets 41st straight win to start the 2011 season
Great game and great atmosphere to officially start the 2011 season for every team in the state. The top 2 ranked programs by 24-7 in the state's biggest classification...I had to be there.
Hamilton got the ball first and marched down the field. QB
was super sharp, only throwing one incomplete pass in the drive. His main target on the drive and for the night was
. Taylor caught 3 passes during the drive. Mt. Pointe's defense stepped up and forced a field goal and HHS had the early 3-0 lead.
Mt. Pointe got the ball and when they lined up, they looked like a college offensive line and they used those big boys to their advantage. QB Dillon Johnson and junior RB Thomas Warren made several nice runs and it would be Johnson who would score from 16 yards out to give the Pride a 7-3 lead after the PAT.
Hamilton would score again on the second drive of the night and again it was Kendyl Taylor who came up big. He made a nice catch and run to move across the 50 then RB Clayton Stanchik took the ball to the 28 yard line. Taylor would eventually score from 5 yards out on a pass from Kemp. 10-7 HHS.
Hamilton looked like they were going to score again after forcing a MP punt but DT, yes defensive tackle, Raynon Blackshire intercepted a Kemp pass at the 2 yard line to thwart the drive.
10-7 at the half.
The second half was a grind out game by both teams and it would be Hamilton that eventually wore MP out. Hamilton finally scored with less than three minutes to play in the game on a Marcus Jones 10 yard run.
Neither team was able to capitalize on turn overs in the half and it was Hamilton that walked away with a 17-7 lead.
Hamilton is young and only going to get better as those young kids mature. Kemp played well tonight, very accurate. Mt. Pointe has talent. They can run the heck out of the ball. Hamilton went to a five man front early and they still pounded it. What hurt them was their inability to throw the football. I still think MP is an 8 or 9 win team.
Kendyl Taylor gets my vote here. Not sure how many catches he had officially but it had to be close to 10.
