Two top 10 teams engage in a shoot out at Phoenix College, Brophy prevails 45-33
Recap
#5 Brophy and #10 Boulder Creek met at Phoenix College and they did not disappoint as 78 points got rattled off before the night was over.
Brophy struck first..and second. QB
Tyler Bruggman
hit
Fred Gammage
twice in the 1st quarter to take an early 14 lead and it looked like the route was on.
Boulder Creek came back with two scores of their own, the first on a QB
Trevor Bonafasi
run from 8 yards out led by a great block by
Austin Farnlof
. The next score came on some trickery as Boulder Creek WR
Marquis Bundy
pulled up on the fake reverse and hit Bonafasi in stride from 30 yards out. The PAT was no good. Brophy up 14-13.
The Broncos took to the ground, RB
D'Amani Grayer
, who came in averaging over 11 yards per carry, scored two times before the half was over and Brophy took a 28-13 lead into the half.
Brophy forced a BC punt to open the half and went right back to work. Bruggman hit junior WR
Devon Allen
for a 59 yard scoring strike. 35-13 Brophy.
Again Boulder Creek scored twice in a row to cut the lead. RB
Stephen Landeros
scored from 18 yards out after a Bonafasi to Isaiah Huston 46 yard bomb. Bonafasi was sharp on their next drive, hitting Huston and Landeros multiple times before punching it in himself from 3 yards out. Brophy still up 35-26 headed into the 4th quarter after a blocked PAT.
Brophy managed 10 points in the 4th while BC scored onceto give us a final of 45-33.
Brophy scored on a 31 yard
Zach Hudson
FG and another Grayer run. Bonafasi raced 64 yards for the Jaguar's lone score of the quarter.
Bottomline
This was an offensive showcase from both teams. Both have the ability to run and throw the ball effectively. Excellent game and these are two teams that could be dangerous come playoff time.
Game Ball
Pick your poison. Brophy's offense had a nice night on the ground from
D'Amani Grayer
. He had 3 TDs. The pitch and catch combo of Brophy junior QB
Tyler Bruggman
and WR
Fred Gammage
was excellent, Bruggman had 3 TDs, two of which went to Gammage.
