The Lions score 35 unanswered points to beat Sunrise Mountain
Recap
This game had all of the makings of a great game. The schools are less than a mile apart, both were undefeated and there were nearly 6,000 people in attendance. The first half lived up to the hype but it would be Liberty pulling away in the 3rd quarter that seperated the two.
The Liberty defense forced a fumble, recovered and the offense quickly scored to take the early 7-0 lead.
Sunrise bounced right back, scoring on a 64 yard TD run. Liberty matched. Two personal fouls and two
Tyler Rogers
completions and the Lions were in the endzone again. 14-7 Liberty.
The Sunrise offense looked up to the challenge, driving the field but Liberty safety Alec Riley intercepted Neiman Sneed's pass in the redzone and stopped the drive and scoring threat.
The Sunrise defense forced a punt and their offense went right back to work, tying the score at 14 on a Corey Brown TD run.
Sunrise got their first lead of the game after Ryan Woods intercepted Rogers and Brown scored again on another short run. The score was set up on a Dylan Touvell to
Elroy Masters
bomb that put the ball n the 20.
With 36 seconds left in the half, Rogers found Markus Beckles deep and put the ball at the 9. Rogers then hit Caleb Robinson in the back of the endzone to tie the score at 21 just before the half.
The second half was a much different story as Liberty scored 35 unanswered points, 28 in the 3rd quarter to pul away from the Mustangs.
Rogers hit Robinson for another score to open the half and Kyle Harms ran in from 80 yards on the Lions' second possesion and Liberty gained all momentum.
Three Sunrise turnovers led to 14 more points and the route was on.
Rogers threw one more TD pass, the final to Tyler Wyatt to give the fans a final of 56-21.
Bottomline
The tail of two halfs. What looked like a great game at the half turned into a boat race.Sunrise Mountain matched Liberty stride for stride in the first half but the second half turnovers and big plays early in the 3rd quarter killed any chance Sunrise Mountain had of breaking their three game losing streak to Liberty.
Game Ball
Pick a player and you can't go wrong. Tyler Rogers was great, WR Caleb Robinson had 3 TD catches and RB Kyle Harms had well over 100 yards rushing. The Liberty defense also forced 5 turnovers.
