Mt. Pointe to play Hamilton in D1 title game after beating Brophy 30-0
Recap
A 20 point 3rd quarter helped propel Mt. Pointe to a victory over Brophy on Friday ay McClintock and into the state title game against Hamilton.
The two teams remained scoreless until the 4:40 mark in the 1st half when Pride QB Antonio Hinojosa scored from 13 yards out.
Mt. Pointe took the 7-0 lead into the half but head coach Norris Vaughan must have used the right halftime speech to motivate his team as the Pride came and scored on each of their possessions in the 3rd quarter.
MP drove the length of the field on a 5 minute drive to start the half capped off on a Hinojosa to Dalton Thorpe TD pass. 14-0.
A Brophy fumble recovered by Mt. Pointe's
Wesley Payne
on the next drive changed the face of the game. Thomas Warren's 3 yard TD gave MP a 21-0 lead and with the way their defense was playing, the game was over.
Hinojosa scored another rushing TD late in the 3rd and Timmy Hernandez j=kicked a FG to give Mt. Pointe a 30-0 win.
Bottomline
Brophy had zero fire power.
Devon Allen
was limited and Marche Dennard was banged up. Give credit to a salty Mt. Pointe defense that never gave the Broncos a chance to get in any sort of rhythm.
Game Ball
Mt. Pointe QB Antonio Hinojosa had his hands in every TD. When is the last time Brophy has been shut out? Game ball to the Mt. Pointe defense.
