Queen Creek Wins D3 State Title
From the get-go, this game was a defensive battle. Queen Creek and Desert Edge, both undefeated on the year, fought to a 0-0 tie after the first half.
It was Desert Edge that scored first, opening the half with a 5 minute drive capped off on a Kyle Woolard TD run. 7-0.
Queen Creek had only two solid scoring chances in the game, prior to the 4th quarter, missing a field goal in the 1st half and fumbling the ball away at Desert Edge's 20 yard line in the 3rd. But finally got on the board in the 4th quarter on a Matt Guida TD run. The drive was kept alive on a defensive holding call on 4th and 3, and QC scored on the very next play. 7-7.
The teams exchanged punts and with roughly a minute to play in the game, Desert Edge had the ball at the own 22 yard line with a chance to win the game before overtime. But the game would never get to OT. Two incomplete passes and a short run gave the Scorpions 4th and long and in a punting situation. The snap sailed over punter Chris Brown's head and into the endzone. Queen Creek's Tucker Workman tackled Brown in the endzone for a safety with just a few seconds left on the clock.
Final- Queen Creek 9 Desert Edge 7
You can watch football the rest of your life and you will never see an ending like that.
Give it to Tucker Workman for coming up with the tackle and safety that gave Queen Creek the win.
