Is Priest Willis still solid with UCLA?

Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza defensive back Priest Willis started quite the firestorm earlier today when he said he didn't plan to sign his letter of intent with UCLA on Wednesday.

Priest Willis just committed to UCLA two weeks ago and looked rock solid to the Bruins. On Tuesday, Signing Day Eve, Willis said he didn't plan to sign his letter of intent because his mom wasn't going to be in town, which created all kinds of speculation and innuendo on what was really going on with his recruitment.

"Man, my phone blew up with like 40 messages," Mike Walker, Willis's step dad said. "At my work, I'm not able to have my cell phone on so I didn't hear what was going on until hours later. I just talked to Priest and let me just end all the speculation, he's 100% solid with UCLA and will be signing with them this week.

"This is actually my fault because Tosha (Priest's mother) is out of town right now and we didn't think Priest could sign without her signature. I talked to Coach Martin and he explained that they can email her a letter and she can sign it and get it right back to us. So we might do that but she comes home Thursday so she might just wait and do it then but Priest is 100% locked in with UCLA, not even a doubt in his mind right now."

What about the talk of other schools getting involved, namely LSU and USC?

"He's not going to LSU or USC," Willis said. "They have both called him but that's it. LSU came in for a home visit the week after he committed to UCLA and brought their whole staff. That's a great school but Priest told them he was going to UCLA and they were very gracious about it.

"With USC, Kiffin called his coach today and asked to talk to Priest but that was it. Priest talked to him for a few minutes, said he was still solid with UCLA and that was that. This whole thing just got way out of hand, I'm still shaking my head. I had to leave work early, drive an hour and a half out of my way to talk to Priest for nothing because he told me there was nothing to it and he was going to UCLA.

"Priest didn't think he could sign tomorrow because I told him that and it just blew up from there. I've heard so many different stories today and most of them have been insulting to me and Tosha. I can't wait for this whole thing to be over with and Priest feels the same way. He's going to UCLA, period, end of story."
