Mt. Ridge struck first, capitalizing on a Perry fumble inside their own 20. RB Zach Miller ran in for the first of his five scores on the night. 7-0 Ridge after 1.
Perry's first score also came as a result of a turnover. BYU commit Chandon Herring forced a fumble, which was recovered by Perry. Junior QB Austin Nightingale hit Alec Monte to get the ball inside the 10, Nightingale ran it in himself to tie the score at 7.
It didn't take Ridge long to respond. Again it was Miller, this time running in from 32 yards out. He would score again just before half while Perry's Mitchell Albrecht kicked a field goal for the Pumas. Score at half, 28-10 Mt. Ridge.
Perry QB Austin Nightingale went down with an injury just before the half so the Pumas came out running the ball with Aaron Ratliff and Anthony Sheffield. Another Albrecht FG cut the lead to 28-13 after a 6 minute drive.
But it took Ridge just a minute to respond with Miller racing in from 56 yards away. 35-13.
Stanford commit Lane Veach kept Perry's hopes alive with a TD reception just as the 3rd quarter ended. 35-20.
But once again, it was Miller responding with a long TD run. Female kicker Kimberly Acosta kicked the PAT to put Mt. Ridge up 42-20 in the 4th.
Perry scored on a Sean Harris TD reception in the 4th while Ridge kicker Billy Evans kicked a 42 yard FG to give us a 45-26 final.
With Ridge being 1-3 and Perry standing 2-2, both teams needed a win as both have tough schedules ahead. Struggling with injuries, Mt. Ridge ran the ball extremely well and came out on top.
Easy pick. Mt. Ridge RB Zach Miller rushed for a school record 300+ yards and 5 TDs.
