Strong second half gives Desert Mountain the win over Mt. View

Breakdown

The game didn't start well for Desert Mountain, but it's not how you start it's how you finish.

Kyle Allen was picked off on is first two passing attempts, leading to 7 Mt. View points. The Toros scored on a Caleb Daniels run.

Desert Mountain got on the board late in the first on the first of three Deion Warren TDs. PAT no good. 7-6.

Mt. View responded on their next drive, extending their lead to 14-6. QB John Clark hooked up with WR Clark Brown for a big gain that took the ball to the 6 yard line. Clark ran in on 4th down from 1 yard out.

After forcing a Desert Mountain punt, the Toro offense marched on a 15 play drive capped off by Daniels' second TD run. The drive was extended after the Wolves roughed kicker Luis Bustillos on his FG attempt. 21-6 Mt. View.

Desert Mountain had a crucial drive near the end of the half to cut Mt. View's lead. Several Warren runs, plus a facemask penalty put DM in scoring position. Allen hit Jordan Higgins for the score and Mark Andrews on the 2-point conversion. 21-14.

Mt. View added a field goal by Bustillos to end the half. 24-14 at halftime.

Desert Mountain capitalized on two Mt. View special teams errors to get right back in the game.A mishandled snap on a punt led to a safety and a DM punt hit the Toro's returner and was recovered by the Wolves. Allen then hit Warren on a TD pass. Two-point try was no good. Mt. View's lead was cut to 24-22.

Warren came up huge on defense, sacking Clark on the next drive and forcing a punt. He then gave Desert Mountain their first lead of the game on his second TD run. Two-point conversion failed. DM up 30-24

Mt. View missed their FG attempt on the next drive and again Desert Mountain would capitalize. Allen hit Mark Andrews on a screen pass that he took to the 25 and a few plays later, Allen hit Cruz Olivarez on a TD pass. Warren scored on the 2-point conversion. 38-24.

The scoring continued in the 4th quarter, Desert Mountain on an Austin Taylor FG and on a 3rd Warren run. Mt. View scored on a Clark to Brown TD pass.

Final Desert Mountain 48 Mt. View 31

Bottomline

Huge win for Desert Mountain. A loss would have made their playoff hopes slim to none. A true tale of two halves as Desert Mountain trailed 24-14 at the half and came back to win 48-31. Mt. View is talented but the special teams miscues turned this game around.

Game Ball

Desert Mountain RB Deion Warren. He scored 3 TDs, converted a 2-point try and had 2 sacks on defense.
