Six players that currently have division-one offers take the field Friday in this huge Week 1 game
Game Recap: Chandler v. Centennial
One of the marquee match-ups of the night and the game lived up to all of the hype.
Chandler muffed the opening kickoff, Centennial recovered and a few plays later Dedrick Young raced in from 20 yards out to put the Coyotes up 7-0.
Centennial's defense rose to the occasion, forcing Chandler to punt on their next three drives. But Centennial was only to get three points out of it as kicker Joe Navarro connected from 46 yards out.
Chandler kept themselves in the game, getting on board with 6 and a half minutes left in the 2nd quarter on a Bryce Perkins to N'Keal Harry TD pass. The score at the half was 10-6.
The second half was when the fireworks started.
A Centennial punt and a fight in which Harry was ejected, must have sparked the Wolves. After the altercation, Chase Lucas ripped ff a 46 yard run and then Perkins scored from 34 yards out to give Chandler their first lead of the game at 14-10.
Chandler pushed it to 21-10 on a Perkins to Danny Mahan TD pass from 9 yards out.
Centennial still had plenty of fight in them. Bozton Sanders converted a fake punt and Dedrick Young rumbled to the 4 yard line and then in for the score. 21-17 Chandler.
Centennial DB Davonte Smith then intercepted Perkins and the momentum shifted back to CeHS.
A screen pass from Isaac Steele to Quinten Gomez plus a personal foul put the Coyotes in scoring position and Steele finished the drive off on a pass to Sanders. 24-21 Centennial in the 4th.
But Chandler had the answer. Perkins hit WR Justin Jan twice on the next drive including a 31 yard strike to give Chandler a 28-24 lead.
Centennial fumbled away any chance of a comeback and Chandler kneeled on the ball and got the victory.
Final- Chandler 28 Centennial 24
Two very talented teams. Both had their fair share of mistakes but Centennial didn't capitalize early on a few chances to score walking away with only 3 points on two trips inside the 20 after being up 7-0.
Chandler has talent, they started slow, but rebounded. The Wolves had some personal fouls and that could have easily cost them.
But these are two very good teams that will make deep runs in the playoffs in D1 and D2 respectively.
Chandler QB Bryce Perkins threw 3 TDs passes and ran another in.
