Recap and Footage from Friday Night's Contest pitting the best Arizona has to offer from the 3A-1A ranks
The annual 3A-1A North v. South All Star game was played out at Surprise Stadium. Players from all across the state spent the week prepping for what will be the last football game for many of these gridiron warriors.
In typical all-star game fashion, both the offenses and defenses played vanilla and the first quarter turned in to both teams exchanging punts. Neither team mustered much offensively and the first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie.
With 5:33 left in the half, the tie was broken when Eloy Santa Cruz RB
Pat Cann
raced over 60 yards to paydirt to make it 7-0 in favor of the South.
The South forced a North punt and with under two minutes left in the half, South QB Drew Vaughan (Wickenburg) found Josh Clelland (Chino Valley) for a 30 yard hook up that put the South in scoring position. Two tough runs by Cann put the South at the North 1 yard line with eight seconds to play and Vaughan found Clelland in the corner of the endzone to put them up 14-0 after the
Jordan Burke
(Sedona) PAT.
Half 14-0 South
Neither team managed to put any points on the board in the second half. The South grinded it out with Cann and Brad Jackson (Cooldige) and North's best chance of scoring was thwarted when the South recovered a fumble after North QB Jacob Krause (Valley Lutheran) hit Stiles Reidhead (Show Low) for a nice gain to put them on the positive side of the 50.
The game ended 14-0 in favor of the South.
Player of the game
South RB Pat Cann ended a great senior season with a spectacular night tonight. Chino WR Josh Clelland had a very sound night, but it looke dliek Cann was on another level this evening. He will be taking his game to Glendale Community College.
