Player of the Week
Washington WR Trevor Johnson caught 7 balls for 199 yards and 3 TDs but his biggest play came at the end of the game, tied 35-35 with Mingus and he intercepted a pass with under two minutes to go an returned 92 yards for a TD and a Rams win.
Quarterbacks
*Santa Rita QB Ian Garlets had 4 rushing TDs and 2 passing against Sahuarita.
*Boulder Creek’s Taylor Davis caught fire against South Mountain, hitting 10 of 13 passes for 249 yards and 5 TDs.
*Tempe is out to a 3-1 start and QB Zack Guizar is a big part of that. He had 220 yards and 3 scores versus Cortez.
*Kevin Yost helped Mt. Ridge come back and beat Pinnacle behind 282 yards and 4 TDs.
*Highland QB Drew Davis went 11 of 18 for 199 yards and 2 scores. He also had 106 yards rushing.
*Mingus QB Tony Vocca and Washington QB Daniel Gamez both had big nights in their shootout. Vocca had 250 yards and 3 TDs while Gamez had 357 and 3 scores.
*Valley Lutheran’s Luke Walkos went 15 of 17 for 298 yards and 2 TDs.
Running Backs
*Amphi’s RB Damian Henry rushed for 194 yards and 3 scores on 14 carries against Catalina.
*Boulder Creek RB Phillip Bayus rushed 11 times for 213 yards and 3 TDs versus South.
*Against AJ, junior RB Dewayne Garrett of Chaparral carried the ball 17 times for 194 yards and 3 scores.
*Arcadia’s Jake Hirschi had 6 carries for 83 yards and 3 TDs versus Desert Edge. He also caught 2 passes for 127 yards and 2 more scores.
*On just 5 carries, Tommy Brown from Skyline rushed for 197 yards and 3 TDs.
*Coronado’s Kaylin Ashley continues to have a great senior year. He rushed for 270 yards and 3 TDs in their win over Kellis.
*SCA’s Taylor Barnes rushed for 274 yards and 2 scores on 15 carries against Tombstone.
*Beau Burton averaged over 10 yards per carry against Shadow Mountain. Going for 217 and 2 TDs on 19 carries.
*In a losing effort, Pinnacle’s Taylor Stib had 171 yards and 4 TDs.
*Another big night was overlooked because of a loss, Ironwood’s Darren Spencer rushed for 228 yards against Deer Valley.
*Cactus RB Mike Brown is having a great season, rushing for over 800 yards already. Against O’Connor, Brown had 200 yards and 3 TDs.
Receivers
*Four-star WR Adam Hall continues to tear it up. He had TD runs of 25, 5 and 3 yards, took an INT in for a score and took a kickoff back for his 5th score against Rio Rico.
*Boulder Creeks Dashawn Briggs caught 6 passes for 185 yards and 4 scores against South.
*Desert Ridge WR Chris Heldore had over 300 all-purpose yards and 4 TDs including a 97 yard run.
*Mt. Ridge WR Cody Wollschlager caught 13 passes for 204 yards and 3 TDs.
*Santa Rita’s J.J. Holliday makes the list for the first time. He had 4 catches for 104 yards and 2 TDs.
*Valley Lutheran WR Ben Fontes had 8 catches for 181 yards and 2 scores.
Defense
*Cienega’s Derrick Coker returned two fumbles for scores versus Agua Fria.
*The Ironwood Ridge defense continues to tear it up, allowing Casa Grande just 66 total yards of offense Friday.
*Against Mesquite, DE Danny Mullarkey from Desert Vista had 3 sacks, a FF and had two receiving TDs.
*D-lineman Mike Munsil had 19 tackles for SCA.
Special Teams
*Notre Dame’s Taylor Malenfant had two punt returns for scores.
