Tempe (Az.) Marcos de Niza safety Ramon Abreu makes verbal commitment

Three-star safety Ramon Abreu from Tempe (Az.) Marcos de Niza High has ended his recruitment and won't be far from home.

Scout.com asked Marcos head coach Roy Lopez if the rumors were true about Abreu committing to Arizona State and Lopez responded, "Yes sir, committed last night."

Abreu (5-10 180) chose the Sun Devils over multiple offers but it came down to ASU, San Diego State and Colorado.

Abreu, an all-state player each of the last two years, had a great senior season rushing for 898 and 16 TDs as a running back, recording 141 tackles, 3 sacks and 4 INTs and averaged nearly 40 yards per punt.

Abreu comments on the commitment, "Honestly, in my eyes, when I narrowed it down, all of the schools were equal in giving me the best opportunity academically. Football, they were great programs that are working on getting better but I chose ASU because it's home and a place I've grown up wanting to play for. It's going to be a great opportunity for me and I am very thankful for it."
